DETAILS:
High-quality bandpass filters from the French manufacturer RFMeca in an RF-tight sheet metal housing with SO-239 connectors.
Excellent for low power contest operation and DX expeditions when using multiband antennas.
The filters can handle a maximum of 200 watts and are available for the following shortwave bands:
- 10m: -45dB (15m); -90dB (6m)
- 15m: -45dB (20m); -65dB (10m)
- 20m: -60dB (40m); -85dB (15m)
- 40m: -55dB (80m); -95dB (20m)
- 80m: -45dB (160m); -85dB (40m)
- 160 m: -45 dB (80 m)
The use of bandpass filters has several significant advantages in amateur radio:
- Reducing interference: Bandpass filters block unwanted signals outside the target frequency band. This helps minimize interference from neighboring frequencies that are not relevant, thus improving signal quality.
- Improved signal-to-noise ratio: By suppressing noise and interference outside the desired frequency range, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is improved. This makes it easier for the receiver to better detect weak signals in the target frequency band, which increases the effective sensitivity of the system in practice, even if the technical sensitivity of the receiver itself remains unchanged.
- Avoid clipping: Strong signals outside the target band can clip the receiver and cause distortion. Bandpass filters prevent this by only allowing the desired frequency band to pass.
- Avoiding harmonic interference: Bandpass filters help suppress harmonic and other non-linear distortions that may radiate into adjacent bands.
