The FLEX-8400 is based on the architecture of the famous FLEX-6400, but has a central processing unit approximately 4 times more efficient and an FPGA twice as powerful. This performance gain not only reduces startup and loading times, but above all provides a solid basis for the implementation of many future features that cannot be implemented with the resources of the FLEX-6000 series.
One of the first of these new upcoming features is ‘Adaptive Pre-Distortion’ (APD) which the manufacturer claims provides the cleanest signal on an amateur radio platform. All FLEX-8000 models also come standard with integrated GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) capability and a future integrated NTP time server. This ensures that all FLEX-8000 transceivers always remain on exactly the same frequency.
The receivers are designed as direct scanning SDR receivers. They use a sampling rate of 122.8 MHz; the AD converter has a word width of 16 bits. This results in an excellent RMDR value of 115 dB (at a distance of 2 kHz). The visible result of this high-end digital technology is that the user has a spectrum width of up to 7 MHz, which is more than enough to observe several amateur radio bands simultaneously and direct their activities accordingly.
The frequency range of the receiver extends from 30 kHz to 54 MHz, the transmitter is limited to the amateur radio bands.
