STACKING ANTENNAS – VOLUME 1.

When the thought of stacking antennas first occurs, one usually looks on the Internet for information about this to establish the associated benefits and different styles (if any) of so doing. It seems always to be the case for one that a reasonable level of understanding of the subject is assumed and therefore, for the “first timer” there are plenty of gaps in the information presented.
So there’s no misconception, one doesn’t need a tower. The vertical support can be achieved in numerous ways depending on what is best for the intended use and the environment available.
Within this book of Volume1 and another book of Volume 2 to follow we will look at stacking in different ways, the resulting benefits, pitfalls and hopefully provide enough information that even the novice can get up and running with their first stacked (phased) array in a timely fashion. This includes the consideration of the objective one has in mind which will determine either more or fewer factors to review and think through to achieve that goal…
And, these books are not only for the “first timer.” An old hand will find much to think about regarding their present setup. This can be to improve a existing stacked antenna setup, or switch to one of choice, or just finding this a new project to further enjoy the hobby by experimenting with the many configurations discussed within this book series.
Stacking antennas on the same mast is always a gamble, but when it pays off, you’re a winner. You reach up and throw a coax switch, or change to another radio, and like magic you have (almost) doubled the benefit of your single vertical support without doubling the expense, labor and footprint!
